As people saw on Wednesday, I've bought myself an Archenemy box set. I've talked to Huw, and we're going to be doing some prizes for people who manage to down the Archenemy. This is mostly aimed at the newer players at the club, but all are welcome. Here's the setup: I will turn up Wednesdays with the scheme deck and the precon that comes with the box set and a bunch of my usual decks. If three of you want a shot at beating the Archenemy, let me know. Now, Huw has kindly donated some boosters to this, so there will be a prize if you can beat the Archenemy. There are two levels: Level 1: If a team of 3 beats the Archenemy when I'm using the preconstructed deck from the Archenemy boxed set, the prize is one booster each for the winners. Level 2: If a team of 3 beats the Archenemy when I'm using one of my own multiplayer decks, the prize is two boosters each for the winners. NB: One prize/level/person. No beating up on the precon to mine it for boosters Questions?

Is there any tips on what kind of deck may be good against these Arch Enemy decks (As in the schemes) or are they just too varied? Sorin Markov seamed very handy - May have to make our own banlist

At this stage, not really. However, if the Archenemy starts getting beaten by tuned competitive decks, expect the Archenemy to tune his deck better as well!
Since we're offering free boosters for defeating the Archenemy, we intend to keep you all on your toes!

I'm treating the preconstructed deck as fixed challenge to be overcome - I totally encourage people to come up with cunning ways to stomp it. The decklists are here. However, remember that each person can only get 1 booster maximum for beating the precon - once you've beaten it, you've got to play against something else if you want a prize. Also, the 2-booster/person prize for beating something better than the precon is not a permanent thing either - if it looks like people have solved the puzzle of how to beat the Archenemy, it will go down. We will also beef up the Archenemy if need be. Tactics: Well, Sorin certainly seemed strong when you played him. There are plenty of other tricks you can use to mess up the Archenemy's day, but I'll let you guys have the fun of figuring them out for yourselves.

Might have to come along and give it a go when I'm back from Germany, if you're still doing it then

I'm not going to be Archenemy-ing next week.
Today's results: Joe lost (just) as the Archenemy against 4 opponents with the GW precon. My Monoblack deck won massively against 4 opponents. I then switched to the RG precon against 4 opponents and got a combination of cards that resulted in a turn 1 14/14 Kilnmouth Dragon. I won that one.
Joe said that the Didcot crew play 4-on-1 as a standard - I think we've underestimated the strength that the scheme deck adds given that the Archenemy deck, and that maybe we should try it that way.

Rob, if you leave the Archenemy precon and schemes with me, I'll be the Archenemy next week.
